Well, I realize it has been quite a while since I posted. We took all of February and most of January off to revamp our sets, learn some new tunes and for me to get my shoulder surgery taken care of. The shoulder ain't healing as quick as I had hoped but I am hoping I'll be back up and running by our 3/3 return to the Mill Rock. This was the site of Groundwürx's premiere a couple of months ago and we are really looking forward to getting back there.

Please check out the web site as we have updated the photos of the band with the new ones Teresa took at Michael's. She really rocks with the camera. We'll eventually get the rest of her pics up there.

We have completely re-worked our sets, added a new song, brought back a song we really missed (c'mon, watching 3 guys do Styx is worth the price of admission alone!!), added some new toys to further widen and enhance our sound (now I get to play keys with my feet as well as my paws and keep the bass going, no attention deficit here!), and we've added some new lights and effects. So this show should be quite something to hear and see. Make a point to come out to the Mill Rock on March 3rd and see what we've been up to. I'll be freshly tanned off the plane from Orlando, so will be happy to tell you all how warm and sunny it was.

And keep St. Patrick's Day open as we will be returning to the Glenville Saloon that night and will have the whole show with us for that. March 10, we return to Michael's and it would be really wonderful to see some of our friends from Albany and Rensselaer counties there, it's another venue we can bring the whole show out to so it's definitely worth the trip.

Til then - Keep Rockin' and supporting live music!!

Well, it was a great trip down memory lane Saturday at The Glenville Saloon. We had a lot of our friends show up and most of us had spent a lot of time at Allen's back in our early days so it was fun to reminisce. The double-edged sword of having a bunch of friends show up is that you don't have enough time to really talk to any of them without ignoring others. Haven't figured out a good solution for that yet. For the most part the night went really well, with a handful of great moments and a handful of train-wreck moments, but the good outweighed the bad and Karen and her crew seemed pretty happy with it. Denny finally got to use the whole lighting system so that was fun. We want to thank Tara for doing a great job at the door. That's usually a pretty thankless job and we really appreciate it being done well.

We were only able to get one new song in...Keep Yourself Alive by Queen. We were very happy with how it came out.

Now we get to try and do it again and even better this Saturday at Michael's in West Sand Lake.

Wow!! It's been a month since I last posted. Lots has been happening, although most of it was not band-related. Bev and I took a trip to Puerta Vallarta, Mexico for a week that was amazing and relaxing and fun and much-needed. Here the view we saw the most since we spent most of our time lazing at the pool reading and watching the ocean in the 80 degree, clear blue sky weather.

On the band front, we are heading down to Slingerlands this Saturday to play at JJ Madden's, a new club for us. Deb VanWely booked this for us and we appreciate the work she has been doing on our behalf. Since I was gone for a while, we won't have any new songs for this gig, but last night's practice went really well and if everyone's health holds out (my throat has been pretty sore today) there should be a noticeable improvement to the newer songs.

We are planning at least 2 new songs for the Glenville saloon gig on Dec. 30, so please try to make that one so we can hear what you think of the new tunes. One came up as a lark at practice last night and sounds like it may become a signature tune for us (think REALLY catchy bass line.... ;-))

We also have several things in the pipeline that are really going to enhance our performance. Those will be making their way into the setlist over the next couple of months so stay tuned.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say something about the cover you may be charged when you come see us. Some people take issue with this and I think this is simply because they don't understand how this business works. If we charge a cover, it is only because our pay at that venue is some minimal amount (to hopefully cover our gas to get there and back) plus the door. If you are paying 3 or 5 or 8 dollars to see us, that money goes directly to the band, and generally that is pretty much the ONLY money going to the band. The club doesn't get any of it. So please don't feel like the club is double-dipping you (the cover PLUS band prices at the bar) because they don't get the door money. If you are not charged a cover (like at The Geyser, or JJ Madden's, then that means the bar is paying us strictly out of their bar sales, so they may sometimes kick their prices up a little on band nights to help cover that. I don't know who does and does not add something to their prices to cover the band, but I wouldn't really blame them if they did. This is a very tough business, and for perspective, we are making the same (and in many cases LESS) in these clubs that we were making when I first started gigging with Bill back in 1976 (factor in inflation and it gets really depressing). In fact back in those days just about every place we played at least booked you for 2 nights, so you only had to set up and tear down once and got 2 performances out of it. Nowadays I don't know of any clubs that do that. If you know of any around here please let us know. Thankfully we are not doing this for the money (tho it is greatly appreciated), we are doing it because we love doing it.

Anyway, hope to see you all out at JJ Madden's Saturday night (Dec. 16) and please try and make our 'Pre-New Year's' bash at The Glenville Saloon on Saturday, Dec. 30.

PS - This just in (as I was posting this) ****Deb booked us at Savannah's on Friday, March 23!!! That should be a great opportunity for us so try and mark that date! Thanks Deb!!

Well, an unexpectedly great night was had at Ziggy's Friday night. After a long day at work for everyone, snafu with the PA when we started (what else is new?!?) things finally kicked into gear and we had a great, fun night!

Big thanks to everyone who came out to support the band on such short notice! It wouldn't have been nearly as much fun without you all there.

Big thanks to Christie and the staff at Ziggy's for being so welcoming!

And big thanks to Deb VanWely for booking the gig and to Atomic Johnson for steering Deb our way.

We should be getting photos of the Mill Rock and Ziggy's gigs up on the web site as soon as I have time to do it. It's so great to have fans who send us the pictures they take so we can share them with the rest of you. Now I just have to find time to do the sharing part...

We are still awaiting some feedback on the first 2 shows so please forward your comments along either by posting to this board (keep it clean...) or more privately, by e-mail to:
groundwurx@yahoo.com

Don't be shy!

Thanks to all our supporters out there. See you soon!!

LAST MINUTE GIG!!!

This Friday, Nov. 10 we will be playing at Ziggy's on Rt 9 in Latham (right at the north end of Latham Circle).

This is a sudden opportunity due to the very unfortunate accident that befell Brandt from Atomic Johnson last week. We seriously hope he will be back on the drums in short order.

Anyway, since this is so last minute, advertising will be non-existant so please tell all of your co-workers and freinds and anyone else that will listen to you that they need to make Ziggy's their destination this Friday night.

This is a potential new club for us and could also lead to another couple of clubs if things go well (read: lots of people come to see us) so let's rock the joint!!!

Thanks for your support
